Mo lived at the Tanglewood Apartments in San Jose, Calif., and charmed many of the complex’s residents. “This was a very friendly and loving cat,” said Samantha Moore. “It’s really a shame.”
Last week Mo was found with rubber bands tightly tied around his paws, neck and tail. Maggots had destroyed much of his tissue, and the 6-year-old black cat had to be euthanized.
Moore posted fliers about the reward around the apartment complex, and stories about Mo appeared in The Mercury News. A nonprofit group of volunteers that work with San Jose Animal Care and Services is administering the fund. Residents hope the reward will result in the arrest and conviction of the torturer.
Local residents recently raised more than $700 to reward the person who helps track down the individual who tortured Mo. The reward jumped to $3,200 when the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals contributed $2,500 to the fund, The Mercury News reported.
