Too Many Mice? Get Yourself a Barn Cat
A farm outside of Fincastle, Va., has two new barn cats, thanks to a Franklin County program. Barn Cat Buddies is volunteer organization that saves feral cats that otherwise would be euthanized. Alexander Kamwell of White Eagle Ranch gave the program thumbs up. He is happy to have cats in the barn that he knows will not have kittens, OurValley.org reports.

Shelter’s Euthanasia Chamber Assailed
Only a month after the groundbreaking at the West Valley City Animal Shelter in Utah, a controversy is brewing over the shelter’s planned installation of a carbon-monoxide euthanasia chamber. The plans have ignited an e-mail campaign by breed rescuers and pet foster parents. The new West Valley City facility, to be located at 4400 West and 3500 South, plans to use this method only when animals are diseased, dangerous or feral and unable to be handled by workers, according to Animal Services Operations Director Kelly Davis, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Precious Pets Cemetery Allows for Peaceful Goodbyes
Flowers and statues adorn the ground of this 3 1/2-acre plot in Spencer, Okla., as families come to visit loved ones they have put in their final resting place. This cemetery, though, is for a different kind of family member. Precious Pets Cemetery in Spencer has been burying families' beloved dogs, cats, snakes, rabbits and turtles since 1985. Owner Linda McCullough said the cemetery buries about 250 pets a month, the Midwest City (Okla.) Sun reports.
