To encourage adoptions of older cats, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New York City will host a “Free Over 3” adoption event Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 13-14 at its Adoption Center, 424 E. 92nd St. Cats available through the adoption program are 3 or older, already spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
“Adult cats are easier to care for than rambunctious juveniles, and they’re typically house-trained and accustomed to life in the home,” said Gail Buchwald, ASPCA senior vice president of adoptions. “At the ASPCA, we have a wide range of cats, so whether you’re looking for a playful kitty or a snuggly lap cat, we’ll strive to find the ‘purr-fect’ match. Also, adult cats have well-formed personalities, so what you see is what you get.”
The “Free Over 3” adoption event is limited to two free cats per household. Cats come with a certificate for free follow-up veterinary care at the ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital within 14 days of adoption, as well as a pet carrier and literature about cat behavior. Potential adopters should bring two forms of identification, two personal references, vaccination records for any current pets in the home, and proof of income.
