County to Temporarily Run Humane Society Shelter
Horry County will temporarily assist the Horry County Humane Society in running its animal shelter and clinic to give the organization time to regroup after a disease outbreak forced more than 100 animals to be euthanized, officials said. The society has lost two executive directors since early December, when the shelter was closed after an outbreak of distemper, a mostly fatal canine virus. The shelter reopened for business Thursday, but a separate outbreak of panleukemia, a feline disease likened to distemper, forced about 15 cats to be euthanized, the Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Sun News reports.

That’s why folks are wondering why Sammy the cat got kicked out of the town’s post office. Sammy’s supporters have gathered outside the post office with hopes of getting the cat back in the building. It started when one upset customer sent a letter to the postmaster. “They said this is a federal building and Sammy doesn’t pay taxes so he can’t come in,” says postal worker Rochelle Langford, kare11.com reports.
