The euthanasia rate for stray and abandoned cats and dogs that are taken to New York City’s animal shelters has steadily fallen to a projected 38 percent for 2008, down from 74 percent in 2002, giving advocates for animals hope that they will be able to meet an announced goal of bringing the rate to zero by 2015, the New York Times reports.

Animal Sanctuary Must Find New Home for Cats
Officials are looking for a new place to take care of about 80 cats this week after the Fallbrook (Calif.) Animal Sanctuary had to move the rescued felines from its facility off Old Highway 395 last week in response to a code enforcement order, the North County Times reports.
