An online pet photo contest launched by the Humane Society of the United States will help raise funds for Spay Day. |
Spay Day, a worldwide event that encourages pet owners to have their cats and dogs spayed or neutered to help manage the pet population, has the support of more than 200 organizations this year, including Humane Society International.
To kick off the campaign, an annual Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest was launched by the Humane Society of the United States. The goal is to raise funds for Spay Day events around the world.
The contest features a panel of celebrity judges, including Matt Grant of “The Bachelor”; author and dog trainer Tamar Geller; “MUTTS” cartoonist Patrick McDonnell; and photographer Christopher Ameruoso.
Spay Day takes place the last Tuesday of February, with events in honor of the day occurring throughout the month. Event organizers across the United States and internationally host special spay/neuter clinics and conduct outreach efforts to raise funds and promote spaying and neutering.
More than 1.5 million dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered as a result of the event, which began in 1995.
To enter the contest, photos can be uploaded before 5 p.m. EST Feb. 27.
