Sneezy, one of seven felines starring on a new kitty webcam, will be available for adoption on Feb. 8. |
Seven playful
kittens are the stars of a new kitty
webcam capturing the action at the West Los Angeles Animal Care Center, where the felines will be available for adoption starting Sunday, Feb. 8.
The kittens, named Happy, Sneezy, Bashful, Grumpy, Dopey, Doc and Sleepy, will be 8 weeks old by the time they are ready to be adopted. The goal is to have the entire litter placed in new homes by Feb. 14.
The live webcam was recently launched by charitable group
FoundAnimals.org. By posting the kitty webcam on its website via Ustream.tv, the group seeks to raise awareness about the 6-8 million cats and dogs that enter U.S. shelters each year.
So far, the kitty webcam has captured nearly 800,000 unique viewers, according to Michael Gilman, the group's communications director. As part of an ongoing effort to get the word out about animal shelters, the plan is to switch up the camera every two weeks, Gilman said, to spotlight other animals from various shelters in the Los Angeles area that are in need of a home.
People who expect to see a bunch of sleeping kittens on the webcam are in for a surprise, according to Gilman. "They're playing constantly," he said, "they're going bonkers."
A puppy webcam featuring a litter of Shiba Inus became an online sensation soon after it was set up by a California couple in October 2008.
