Original cat artwork created by prominent cartoonists and illustrators such as The New Yorker’s George Booth and Roz Chast makes up the “Art for Cats” benefit taking place now through Feb. 26.

Anjellicle Cats Rescue in New York City served as the inspiration behind the event, an online eBay auction featuring limited edition prints by top artists. Proceeds from the contributed artwork will go to the nonprofit, no-kill feline rescue group.

With the first $2,500 raised, the organization plans to build a separate room for two kittens with feline leukemia who must be kept separate from other cats. So far, 40 artists have donated works, including the following:

  • George Booth, cartoonist for The New Yorker, whose work has appeared in the New York Times. He also illustrates children's books including "Wacky Wednesday" by Dr. Seuss.

  • Juliette Borda, whose illustrations have appeared in many publications and books including "The Girl's Guide to Absolutely Everything," The New York Times and The New Yorker.

  • Roz Chast, cartoonist for The New Yorker since 1978. She is represented by Julie Saul Gallery.

  • Danny Shanahan, cartoonist for The New Yorker. The Village Voice just named him the most amusing of all New Yorker cartoonists.

  • Mark Ulricksen, an award-winning illustrator and artist whose art has appeared in Rolling Stone, Vibe, GQ, Entertainment
