Humane Society Naples to Kick Off Renovation

$3.6 million project scheduled to be completed in nine months.

Posted: Feb. 23, 2009, 3 a.m. EST

A two-part renovation project at Humane Society Naples in Florida kicks off Feb. 26 with a groundbreaking event to mark the start of construction.

The event launches the largest and most ambitious makeover in the organization’s history. Upgrades are expected to bring the 49-year-old no-kill animal shelter and adoption center into the 21st century, the organization said.

The original shelter building that opened in 1962 will be razed. In its place will emerge a new intake, isolation and quarantine ward for new and recovering cats and dogs. There will also be an indoor training room and pet education seminar classroom.

Work on the first phase is expected to be finished in five months. Then phase two begins, which involves updates to an existing building on the same site built in 1995, and connecting it to the new building. The second part of the project is expected to be completed in four months.

The cost for the entire project is $3.6 million. The organization remains open for business during the renovation process.
