The results from the judges are in, and the winners of the second annual Spay Day Online Pet Photo
Contest have been unveiled.
The Humane Society of the United States said the top entry in the judged category was a photo of a dog named Gus sent in by Lanmana Parys of Spirit Lake, Idaho. The judges were won over by the photo and his description, which tells of the dog’s abilities as a babysitter/big brother for the foster animals that he has shared his home with through the years.
“I can trust him with the smallest and weakest,” his owner said, “and even his annoying little sister can’t break his patience.” In the winning photo, Gus is pictured with a white kitten in the background, and a tabby sleeping by his nose.
The top 10 winners included a cat named Biscuit from Berkeley, Calif.; a cat named Kona from Silver Spring, Md.; and a dog from Raluca, Botosani, Romania, named Kuky. More than 45,000 entries were looked over by a panel of celebrity judges, which included “MUTTS” cartoonist Patrick McDonnell and photographer Christopher Ameruoso.
