North Shore Animal League America’s ninth annual Tour for Life adoption drive makes its final stop Saturday, April 25. More than 900 shelter animals have been adopted during the monthlong initiative, said Dianne Zoppa, spokeswoman for NSALA.

“It's 909, to be precise,” Zoppa said, “and we still have two more events to go.”

The final two events are at Wayward Paws cat and kitten rescue in Jamesville, N.Y., and the grand finale at FAO Schwarz, the specialty toy retailer in New York City. The culmination celebrates the tour’s cross-country journey totaling more than 11,000 miles through 25 cities in 16 states to help more than 100 animal shelters and rescue groups find homes for homeless cats and dogs.

Zoppa said animal-loving celebrities, including TV star Kathryn Erbe of TV's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," will gather in the windows of the world-famous toy store at Fifth Avenue and 58th Street. Also participating will be "Greatest American Dog" reality show contestants Beth Joy Knutsen, Laurie Williams and David Best.

A puppy parade with celebrities takes place at 10 a.m. The pet-adoption mobile unit also will be on site with dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

That's a lot of miles to cover for a worthy cause. It's so cool that there were so many adopted out.
