Michael Lappin, DVM
One of the feline health areas that Dr. Michael Lappin focuses research on is the prevention of infectious diseases.
The Winn Feline Foundation has rewarded its newly initiated Excellence in Feline Research Award to Dr. Michael Lappin of Colorado State University.

As the recipient of this award, Lappin is recognized for his work in feline medicine and his efforts to improve the lives of cats, according to the foundation devoted to the advancement of feline health. The honor includes a $2,500 cash prize.

Lappin received his DVM from Oklahoma State University in 1981 and his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1988. He was board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1987.

He’s professor of small-animal internal veterinary medicine at Colorado State’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Lappin studies feline infectious and immune-mediated diseases and has written many primary research papers.

His main areas of interest are prevention of infectious diseases, vaccine-associated adverse effects, the upper respiratory disease complex, infectious causes of fever and diarrhea, and zoonotic diseases of cats.

The award is paired with a matching scholarship by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) for a veterinary student interested in feline medicine. It’s designed to promote and encourage feline health studies by established veterinary researchers and by those entering the field.

Lappin will be presented with the award at the AVMF Annual Convention Recognition Event on July 12, in conjunction with the American Veterinary Medical Association Convention in Seattle.
