I am wondering why the 10 year old girl was around the mountain lion in the first place.Judging by the last name it wasn't a family member.Without knowing the reason they have the big cats it appears to me that they are in a very secure enclosure and they look to be content and well taken care of the girl may have spook the big cat.

I have to agree with alot of the comments here ...wild animals should not be kept as pets.

Why would any family, especially one with small children, keep a wild animal as a pet? You would think that people would be smart enough to realize that this is NOT a good idea!

Keeping wild animals as pets? Come one now, how much of a 'dumb thing' is that? VERY. Adopt a cat or dog (or 2!) from a shelter and leave the exotic animals to their natural habitat or to a reputable zoo.
