A winning entry in the National Children's Pet Poetry Contest is about cats. |
American Pet Products Association (APPA) announced the five winners in its first National Children's Pet Poetry Contest. Among the winners was Jessica, 8, from Brooklyn, N.Y., who wrote a poem titled "My Cat."
The contest was open to third-graders arouond the country through APPA's Pets Add Life campaign. The winners will receive pet products, and each winning student's classroom will receive a $1,000 scholarship to spend on pet-related education. Other winning poems were about birds, fish and hamsters.
Here is Jessica's winning poem:
My Cat
My cat sleeps anywhere,
any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window ledge,
in the middle, on the edge.
Open drawer, empty shoe,
anybody's lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box,
in the cupboard with your pots.
Anywhere! She doesn't care!
Cats sleep anywhere!
