Fur Flies Over Proposed Ban on Declawing Cats
In pet-crazy San Francisco, it sounds like a no-brainer: a proposed ban on the declawing of cats, framed by supporters as a simple animal-cruelty measure. But the ban is opposed by the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and others, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

My first cat was declawed, because I thought that's what I had to do in order to bring it into my world. Years later I took in a kitten from the street, and thought I had to declaw this cat in order for it to live with the first safely. It wasn't until I took in an older stray cat that I realized declawing wasn't necessary, and wondered why I wasn't educated by the 2 vets who did the surgeries when my cats were being spayed. Have to guess it's all about the money! Vets don't care, and will do what they do to accomadate their clients.

I have 9 cats now, 4 are declawed - the first 2 I personally had done, the other two I adopted, AND 1 of them is multi-toed. Aptly names Hemingway. The vet who took off all those toes' claws had to be crazy - crazy for money!

I do not think the government should get in on the cat claw controversy. They mess everything up. I am a cat owner of declawed (front paws only) kitties. I will only do them when they are kittens and while they are being spayed/neutered. I have very, very happy and healthy kitties, spoiled rotten and have no bad effects at all from the procedure. I also add that all of my four kitties were abandoned kitties that would have died if I had not takent them in.

What a happy story. Hopefully, Gus will now only be an INDOOR kitty.
