Humane Society Urges More Respect for Cats
People who are upset about the mercy shooting of an injured cat this week should direct their energies toward starting a spay-and-neuter program and hiring an animal control officer, says the head of the Nashua (N.H.) humane society, reports the Nashua Telegraph.

Precious little Momma dog taking care of the kittens is too much cute! I wonder though, since all animals have different vitamin requirements to fulfill their proper growth and all that, when one breed nurses another breed - dogs to cats; cats to squirrels; etc. - does the 'baby' need to have extra vitamins given to secure their health?

I REALLY wish comments were 'tracked' and I'd get a notification to my email when and if someone answers or comments on our comments, since it is given anyway! Oh, but I'll just come back later!

I think that the officer did the right thing. It isn't like he shot a perfectly healthy cat. This poor animal was suffering and he ended it's suffering. The one who should be shot is whoever ran over the cat in the first place. The poor officer is getting his name dragged through the mud when he was helping the cat. I am sure he didn't enjoy having to shoot the cat. I couldn't have done it but I don't think he was in the wrong by doing what he did.

I lost a very sweet kitty to FIP and though it is a very contagious disease the pet store continued to sell kittens.I was young and "stupid" at the time but that was the last time I ever went into a pet store. All of the kitties I have adopted since have been through a rescue or the humane society. We all learn from our mistakes.

Even though I could not have shot the cat I think the officer did the best thing in ending the cat's suffering immediately. The bad one is the one that ran over them in the first place.
