Animal behavior professionals and the general public will now have a resource to turn to before surrendering animals, American Humane says.

The American Humane Association has acquired the Animal Behavior Resources Institute Inc.’s ABRIonline website. Click here for the new link.

The acquisition will allow for expanded content offerings, such as a video library, podcasts and research reports, and increased website traffic, according to the two groups. The goals are to increase pet adoptions, reduce euthanasia, promote the human-animal bond and be a resource to animal welfare and companion animal professionals.

“Unwanted pet behavior is a major factor leading to animal surrenders to shelters,” said Dori Villalon, vice president of Animal Protection for American Humane. “Through American Humane’s ABRI online program, we are giving animal behavior professionals, as well as the general public, access to the latest best practices and research in pet training. The program is a resource for people to address unwanted pet behavior, which will in turn strengthen the human-animal bond between people and their pets.”

As part of the agreement, the American Humane Association has hired Duffer Schultz, president and chief executive officer of ABRI. He will serve as director of ABRI and video marketing, and oversee all operations of the website.

Dr. R.K. Anderson, founder and chairman emeritus of ABRI, will also serve in an advisory capacity with the association.
