Wine Family Gives $2.4 Million to Animal Shelter
When wine icon Rodney Strong died three years ago, his obituary suggested donations to the Healdsburg (Calif.) Animal Shelter, as did his wife's death notice in 2003. The couple also made sure in their will that the animal shelter would benefit. When their estate finally settled this summer, the directors of the shelter discovered they would receive more than $2.4 million from the Strong bequest, the Santa Rosa (California) Press Democrat reports.

So Long to Old Black Jack
Black Jack's final resting place couldn't be more restful - under an oak tree along the 8th fairway at Palmer Hills Golf Course in Bettendorf, Iowa. In his younger days, theall-black cat would nap on the thick branches of the trees, reminding his caretaker and golf course superintendent Brad Peterson of a leopard in the wild, the Quad City (Davenport, Iowa) Times reports.

Suspected 'Kitten Killer' Arraigned in Case
The man who is suspected of killing a family's pet kitten while burglarizing their home in Roseville, Mich.,was arraigned in 39th District Court. Ty-Shawn Eric Bost, 19 of Highland Park, was charged with both home invasion and the killing of the pet cat, WXYZ.com reports.
