Friskies has declared Feb. 29, Leap Day 2012, “Friskies Plus Day,” a day of extras for cats. The cat food company will celebrate this event in Los Angeles with a charitable sculpture.

To commemorate Plus Day and the launch of Friskies Plus cat food, Friskies ordered a nearly 10-foot tall, 6-foot wide Friskies Plus Catstruction sculpture at Hollywood and Highland boulevards in Los Angeles. On display one day only, the large cat sculpture features thousands of cans of Friskies Plus cat food.

Friskies will donate the cans used to build the Friskies Plus Catstruction to three Los Angeles based cat rescue organizations. The Lange Foundation, Kitt Crusaders and Kitten Rescue each will receive thousands of cans of Friskies Plus. Combined, these organizations help 2,400 cats each year. Representatives from each foundation were on site to see the Friskies Plus Catstruction and receive an honorary can symbolizing the donations.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Friskies Plus Day nationwide with cat lovers,” said Kamila Nelson, assistant brand manager for Friskies. “We hope to enhance the lives of cats and help support organizations that help shelter cats live happy, healthy lives before they’re adopted into new homes.”

Friskies encourages Los Angeles area cat lovers to celebrate Friskies Plus Day by visiting the Friskies Plus Catstruction in person, and sharing photos on the Friskies Facebook page. The company’s Facebook fans can expect a Plus Day party with extras for their cats, from toys to coupons and more. The Friskies Plus Day fun takes place on the Friskies Facebook page between noon and 8 p.m. EST with new offers throughout the day.

Friskies partnered with Canstruction, a nonprofit organization that specializes in building structures featuring canned food to raise awareness for hunger issues. To view and share photos and video of the Friskies Plus Catstruction, and learn more about Friskies Plus and Friskies Plus Day activities, please visit the Friskies Facebook page.
