Alaska Airlines has updated dog and cat kennel standards on its flights.
Veterinary hospital chain operator Banfield Pet Hospital started offering benefits for Alaska Airlines customers shipping or traveling with cats or dogs, and the airline is also offering a discount on its dog and cat shipping service and is changing its dog and cat kennel standards, Seattle-based Alaska Airlines company reported last week.

Through the partnership with Alaska, Banfield is offering customers shipping or traveling with cats or dogs a free office visit, travel consultation and a $10 discount on a health certificate, which is required for all dogs and cats traveling in the cabin, as baggage or as air cargo.

To celebrate its partnership with Portland, Ore.,-based Banfield, the airline is also offering a 10% discount on PetStreak Animal Express shipments through June 9, 2012. The service allows dog and cat owners to ship cats and dogs via air freight when the owner isn’t traveling with the pet.

The airline also implemented new dog and cat kennel standards effective May 1, 2012, for dogs and cats traveling in the airplane hold. Alaska Airlines will require nut-and-bolt locks on dog and cat kennels to ensure the dogs and cats remain in their kennel while traveling.
