Cat Food Recalled in 25 States

Lack of an essential ingredient leads a cat food maker to recall several products.

Diamond Pet Foods is recalling certain bags of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat Formula dry cat food, Premium Edge Senior Cat Hairball Management Formula dry cat food, Premium Edge Kitten Formula dry cat food, Diamond Naturals Kitten Formula dry cat food and 4health All Life Stages Cat Formula dry cat food after internal tests showed a low level of thiamine (Vitamin B1), an essential nutrient. The recall, issued Sunday, affects product in 25 states.

Thiamine maintains normal nervous system function in cats. Cat thiamine deficiency can appear gastrointestinal or neurological in nature. Early signs of thiamine deficiency might include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In advanced cases, neurological signs can develop, which may include cervical ventroflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, ataxia (wobbly walking), falling, circling and seizures.

The products were distributed to customers located in 25 states, listed below.

People who have the recalled products should return or discard them immediately. The following products are subject to the recall:

Diamond Brand pet foods are some of the worst on the market. Their brands of both cat and dog foods get recalled consistently and have for years due to improper nutritional values, contamination by pests, salmonella, you name it. And they apparently make no effort to improve their products. Stay away from Diamond Brand pet foods!

Sandy is right! I buy EVO its made right here in America, I believe Nebraska? And I don't think ProPlan has ever had a recall either. It's very very sad bu Sandy is right, we have to do more research into exactly what we are putting in our bodies. If you believe the American government is keeping you safe, they are not. We are global now and get products from everywhere. As someone in D.C. government said to me once, "It is impossible for America to police the world. They sign a paper saying they will not put illegal pesticides on our food etc. but there is no way for the American government to follow up on shipments coming fro around the world. You have to know where your food and your pet's food is REALLY coming from. Do the work, or as Sandy said "We'll all end up dead"

I too thank god I don't use these brands. The only brands I buy for my cat is mostly Fancy Feast. Occasionally I buy Sheba which they don't seem to be crazy about, Meow Mix and another brand Petit something which I buy for a 1.00 at Big Y when I am there. Sandy
