The full list of recalled pet food includes 80 lots.
Natura Pet Products on Monday voluntarily recalled selected lots of California Natural, Evo, Innova and HealthWise dry dog and cat foods because of potential salmonella contamination.

The affected products are sold in bags through veterinary clinics, pet specialty retailers and online in the United States, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong and Costa Rica.

One Evo ferret food was recalled. The other identified foods are dog and cat formulas.

No salmonella-related illnesses were reported, noted Fremont, Neb.-based Natura, a division of Procter & Gamble. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning in cats and dogs include lethargy, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. People who handle contaminated pet products may exhibit similar symptoms.

The recalled dog and cat foods, which bear specific UPC and lot codes, were produced in a single plant over two weeks in December. Routine testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture showed the presence of salmonella in food collected from one store.

I quit buying EVO and Innova CAT & DOG food when Procter and Gamble bought EVA and Innova. If you recall, P&G bought Science Diet years ago, changed the formula to junk, and continues to live off the Science Diet name. People need to periodically check the manufacturer and formula. I now feed my cat and dogs Annameat.

I am thankful for this article. Cat Channel does so much for our pets. I wonder why this information wasn't in any newspapers.

I know this says the recall is only the dry food but I find it interesting that when I opened a new can of California Natural Chicken & Brown Rice cat & kitten food two days ago my cat wouldn't touch it, even with tuna mixed in it, a combo she normally eats readily even with her nasty tasting medication in it. Hmmm....
