Previous Natura Pet Products recalls have been expanded to include all foods with an expiration date before June 10, 2014.
The ongoing threat of salmonella contamination moved Natura Pet Products today to voluntarily recall all Innova, California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma dry pet food and treats for cats and other pets bearing expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

The action follows similar recalls issued in March and April for Natura products with earlier expiration dates. The newest recall added the Mother Nature line of biscuits.

The recalls, the first in the company’s 21-year history, involve food for cats, dogs and ferrets. Canned food is not affected. The recalled products are sold through pet stores and veterinary clinics in the United States and Canada as well as online.

The Fremont, Neb., company, a division of Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble, reported the latest news in a statement posted on its website. An advisory also was issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Natura’s statement noted that the company was "truly sorry” and "disappointed.”

"We made this decision in part due to a single positive salmonella test by the FDA on product manufactured April 3,” the company stated. "Normally, this would have resulted in retrieval of product manufactured over just a few days. However, we are taking the additional precautionary measure to recall all products in the marketplace.”

Natura did not explain why salmonella continues to trouble the company. A spokesman could not be reached to comment.

In a sign that Natura is working to solve the salmonella issue, the statement pointed out that "additional finished product testing procedures” have been implemented "with the guidance of industry experts.”

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning in pets include lethargy, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. People who handle contaminated pet products may exhibit similar symptoms.

Hi everyone,

Just a thought....I constantly see recalls for holistic cat foods/natural cat foods (very expensive). I have never seen one for my Fancy Feast or Sheba wet foods. What gives???

My two fur kids also loved the EVO turkey/chicken light dry cat food. I am so frustrated trying to find them a dry food they will eat. They also get the Authority brand canned cat food, but I supplement w/dry food.

This has become a real problem as they have become finicky eaters which they never were before on the EVO.
