Adopt a River Cat is asking land owners to care for feral cats in their barns
Adopt A River Cat encourages farmers and land owners in Illinois to keep feral cats in their barns.
A feral cat rescue organization in Illinois has a message for area farmers and rural land owners: We need your barns.

Adopt A River Cat, a no-kill, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving feral cats in the Kane County, Ill., area, said it’s looking for barns that can house feral cats. The group catches the feral cats, spays or neuters them, gives vaccinations and medical care.

The group asks farmers and land owners to open their barns to feral cats and provide them with food and water. In exchange, the farmers get cats that control their rodent populations.

Adopt A River Cat Co-founder Donna Feeley says the program has been successful so far, but it is always in need of volunteers and farmers who can provide shelter and food.

Adopt A River Cat was founded in the 1990s to help a pack of feral cats that once lived along Illinois’ Fox River.

To help, or for more information, call Donna Feeley at (630) 377-7191.

I live on Pistakee Lake on the Fox River and have a feral cat that needs a barn. The former owner of the home had her spayed and fed her outside on the porch. She is friendly, but does not like to be petted. We have a dog and she only returns at night to compete for her food with the raccoons. We can't keep her and are looking for a barn or place where she can be cared for. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you!

this sounds good program as the farmers dont have to worry about kittens but still get the barn cats.. good idea

I hope this has a good turn out! I would take in more cats if I had a barn or anymore room!
