Mrs. Crump doesn't want a cat. When a stray yellow cat turns up on her porch, Mrs. Crump decides she is going to encourage the cat to leave. But then she needs to buy a pint of cream, and ends up purchasing a dish and a collar. Before she knows it, she's half-heartedly hanging found flyers that paint the cat in a not-so-good light troublesome, wet, with fleas not exactly the way to entice the owner to come pick him up!
Smiths descriptive language tells the tale of a lonely woman who thinks she doesn't want the burden of a pet but secretly longs for companionship. Roberts illustrations invite readers to linger over each page as they discover what Mrs. Crump will do next about her uninvited guest. Students and young readers will enjoy the engaging story.
The hardcover book contains 32 pages and is published by HarperCollins. Release date is May 2006.
