Cat AdoptionThe Berkshire Humane Society (BHS) in Pittsfield, Mass., plans to observe Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month this month by offering a two-fur-one reduced adoption rate through the month of June.

Spring and summer are the times of year when animal shelters are often over-flowing with cats of all ages, sizes and colors. We want to help raise awareness during June in a fun way in order to bring home the reality that these cats need safe and loving homes, shelter manager John Perreault said.

The (BHS)  is one of hundreds of shelters nationwide working with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to promote June as Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month, to bring attention to the cats available for adoption at BHS and other shelters nationwide.

The (BHS)  is an open admission shelter that provides refuge for homeless animals in Berkshire County, free educational programs for local school children, a pet-food bank for economically distressed pet owners and assistance for The Elizabeth Freeman Center in providing women with a safe haven for their pets during crisis.

BHS receives no public funding and relies on memberships and donations to continue its mission. The shelter is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday evenings and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information, visit, or call the shelter at (413) 447-7878.
