As part of Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month this month, the Saving Grace Animal Shelter in Winchester, Ore., is offering several free services to anyone picking out a cat or kitten.
Adopted cats will receive an identification microchip implant, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and an ear-cleaning.
Additionally, owners will receive vouchers for a free veterinarian visit and for a free spay or neuter operation.
Since January, the shelter has taken in more than 850 cats and kittens. Spring and summer are traditionally when shelters overflow with cats of all ages, according to Saving Graces executive director, Heather Johnson.
Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month is part of a national effort organized by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
The cost of a spayed or neutered cat from the shelter is $15. The charge for an unaltered male cat is $30 while an unaltered female goes for $45.
The shelters hours are from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends. The shelter is closed on Mondays.
