Alert cats helped a couple escape their burning Tucson, Ariz., mobile home over the weekend.
Four family cats woke the sleeping couple around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, when the laundry room in their mobile home near Interstate 10 caught fire, according to Northwest Fire/Rescue District spokeswoman Katy Heiden.
The couple grabbed three of the cats, ran outside and called 911, Heiden said.
The fourth cat died in the fire and one of the three remaining cats suffered serious injuries. Paramedics gave the cat oxygen at the scene and the couple took it to a veterinarian, where it later died, according to Heiden.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the laundry room and kitchen, but the home sustained roughly $70,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
