For the past eight years, Bernadette Peters has lent a hand to the homeless cats and dogs of New York City, co-hosting Broadway Barks with Mary Tyler Moore. This year, the event took place July 8.
More than 5,000 animal lovers and pet owners attended the festivities where celebrities adopted animals from more than 24 animal shelters in the area. Broadway actors such as Lucie Arnaz, Maxwell Caulfield, Victoria Clark and Carol Kane joined Peters and Moore on stage to present the cats and dogs available for adoption. Also available at the event were celebrity-autographed memorabilia that were auctioned to raise money for the participating shelters.
Broadway Barks was conceived in 1999 to promote the adoption of shelter animals and has evolved into an event that helps foster a spirit of community among shelters and rescue groups in New York City.
