The Lange Foundation, a Los Angeles-area organization dedicated to saving impounded companion animals, has pledged $1 million to spay and neuter cats and dogs throughout Los Angeles County whose owners need financial assistance.
Vouchers to cover the entire cost of the procedure will be sent to pet guardians, designating a mutually-chosen veterinarian near their home. Feral cats will also be included in the program.
The Lange Foundation said it will raise funds to increase the number of pets it is able to rescue, care for and place in loving homes. The foundation also plans to enhance its sterilization program to ensure that animal shelters will be used as places of refuge rather than euthanizations.
Foundation founder Gillian Lange, who has been rescuing pets from over-crowded public animal shelters for 32 years, said spay and neutering efforts were, The only way to truly make Los Angeles a no-kill county, in a news release.
Those seeking to obtain a voucher can call (310) 472-7727. For more information on the Lange Foundation, visit www.langefoundation.com.
