As part of the American Humane Associations (www.americanhumane.org) 2006 National Conference in Schaumburg, Ill., September 26-28, the organization encourages animal welfare groups and individuals to submit their nominations for the best programs designed to reduce the number of pets euthanized each year. The winning organizations will be invited to speak at a special pre-conference session that will present and discuss the best practices for Spay/Neuter and Adoption, Fostering, Transfer and Behavioral Training.
In addition, winning organizations will be formally recognized at a banquet during the conference. AHAs goal is to share information about successful animal welfare programs, making it possible for other groups and shelters to implement good practices. The ultimate goal is to achieve AHAs new national initiative: Getting to Zero: ending euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals.
