Is your cat a hero?Last year, Pumpkin, a tortoiseshell cat from South Carolina, was named the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Cat of the Year in recognition of the friendship and companionship she gives to the Cason familys son, Will, who had struggled with leukemia treatments in addition to dealing with Down Syndrome and Autism. Which feline friend will be named Cat of the Year in 2006?

The ASPCA invites you to nominate an extraordinary cat, one who has showed a heroic streak of courage or an uncanny sense of companionship, as the 2006 Cat of the Year. The ASPCA also welcomes nominations for its other Humane Awards. Winners will be invited to attend the Humane Awards luncheon Nov. 2, 2006 in New York City.

Categories for nominations include:

ASPCA Dog of the Year
ASPCA Cat of the Year
ASPCA Horse of the Year
ASPCA Henry Bergh Award, which recognizes an individual, foundation or organization that supports the care and welfare of companion animals
ASPCA Lifetime Achievement
ASPCA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, which recognizes a member of a municipal police force who made a heroic effort to save an animal
ASPCA Fireman of the Year, which recognizes a member of a municipal fire station who made a heroic effort to save an animal in the past year

To submit your nominations, visit the ASPCA website at www.aspca.org/nominate. The deadline for entries is August 31, 2006.
