Arizona Vet Hospital to Host Pet Health Symposium
A Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center location
Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center of Tucson, Ariz., is hosting a Pet Health Symposium on May 24, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The center’s veterinarians will speak on topics such as eye disease, heat stroke, osteoarthritis and the melanoma vaccine.

The center will also introduce its new blood bank and will begin recruiting potential blood donors.

The admission fee is $20. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Hope Animal Shelter, which recently merged with Casa de los Gatos, and SAFE (Saving Animals From Euthanasia).

Hope Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter for cats and dogs awaiting adoption. Casa de los Gatos operates a cage-free sanctuary for special needs cats (i.e. cats with feline leukemia) and displaced ferals. SAFE is a nonprofit organization that is working to develop a community-based resolution to the euthanasia of adoptable companion animals.

I am familiar with all 3 of those rescue organizations - they do good work.

I will make a point of being there. The part about feral cats sounds interesting. I do worry what would become of my colony if the area they live in ever got developed.

This would be worth $20 and also would aid a wonderful cause. More pet centers should do this to raise money and it would also help educate people.
