A 14-year-old Southern California boy has used his building skills and love for animals to help him achieve the Boy Scouts highest rank.
Zackary Adams of Troop 473 in Moreno Valley, Calif., built several 5-foot cat trees for the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter, which will be raffled off at the end of July and August to raise money for spaying and neutering and to improve the overall conditions of the shelter.
Zackary collected monetary donations and supplies from family and friends and major contributions from a local business and veterinarian. The project took more than 130 hours to complete.
Only an estimated two percent of scouts ever attain Eagle. To attain the rank, a scout must complete at least 21 merit badges and organize a service project that benefits his church, community or school.
A Court of Honor to celebrate Zackarys Eagle Scout promotion is set for Aug. 5 at a Moreno Valley church.
