Cats at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society in Virginia have a new sunroom to lounge in, thanks to participants in the a Friskies cat food company nationwide contest.
To enter the contest, the shelter sent a letter explaining the changes needed in its cat-holding area. The entry was listed on the Friskies website where people voted on it. After the votes were tallied, the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society won a $10,000 grant to renovate the cat room.
The sunroom, with beds, climbing structures and toys, are able to provide a homelike setting to help make the cats stay at the shelter as comfortable as possible while they wait for adoption.
Local custom sunroom builder Melani Bros., donated the sunroom and delivered it to the shelter, while a construction company built enclosed walkways from the shelter to the sunroom.
The humane society is planning to build a new shelter at a new location but will take the new sunroom as well.
