The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is asking for the publics help in identifying extraordinary animals and animal lovers who have furthered animal welfare in the United States over the past year.
Nominations can be made either through the mail or on the ASPCA website. An ASPCA-selected committee will choose the winners who will be invited to attend an awards luncheon.
The deadline for entries is noon Eastern Standard Time, Thursday, Aug. 31. The categories are:
ASPCA Cat of the Year
(for the cat who has performed a heroic act in the past year)
ASPCA Dog of the Year
(for the dog who has performed a heroic act in the past year)
ASPCA Horse of the Year
(a horse who has performed a heroic act in the past year)
ASPCA Lifetime Achievement
(for the person over 50 years of age who has spent many years in animal welfare service)
ASPCA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
(for a municipal police force member or other public service officer, who made a heroic effort to save an animal in the past year)
ASPCA Fireman of the Year
(for a fire department member or rescue squad member who has made a heroic effort to save an animal in the past year)
ASPCA Henry Bergh Award
(Named after the ASPCAs founder, Henry Bergh, the award recognizes individuals who dedicate their lives to making the world a kinder, more humane place for animals.)
The nomination should include the nominees name, category for which he/she is being nominated, street address, email address, telephone number and a short 75 words or less description of why you think they deserve the award.
