Wake County, North Carolina residents warned not to approach stray felines.

The two rabies cases were reported in the past few weeks. On July 21st, county officials say an employee at a retail store was bitten by a feral cat that entered the stores loading dock area. The cat was captured, quarantined and then euthanized after it tested positive for rabies on Aug. 3rd.

And on July 12th, Wake County officials say, a person at an apartment complex was scratched by a feral cat. The animal was captured, quarantined and eventually euthanized after testing positive for rabies.

Officials ask that anyone who has been bitten or scratched by a feral or wild cat to call Wake Countys Community Health Communicable Disease section.

Anyone reporting stray animals in Wake County can call (919) 212-PETS (7387).
