ASPCA Hosts Cat Behavior Sessions

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay (Fla.) will co-host the free sessions.

Why does your cat chase her tail? What makes her stalk your slippers every morning? Jacque Schultz, ASPCA senior director of national outreach, will answer these types of behavior questions during two question-and-answer sessions centered on issues of animal behavior, housing and handling.

The free sessions will take place at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, 3607 N. Armenia Ave., on Wednesday, Jan. 16, and Thursday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m. both evenings. Schultz will address dog-related questions on Jan. 16 and cat-related question on Jan. 17.

The sessions are part of the ASPCA’s Mission: Orange objective to decrease pet overpopulation and increase the “save rate” of homeless cats and dogs. Tampa Bay is one of Mission: Orange’s target communities, with four groups — Hillsborough County Animal Services, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, No More Homeless Pets-Hillsborough County and the Animal Coalition of Tampa — working together with the ASPCA to reduce euthanasia of adoptable animals.

Schultz lectures throughout the United States about topics related to cat and dog behavior. During her nearly 20 years with the ASPCA, she has consulted on and helped author “The ASPCA Complete Guide to Dogs” and “The ASPCA Complete Guide to Cats.”

This will be good for those who are getting started and those who could use refresher course.

Interesting. Hopefully this will educate people also on the importance of spaying and neutering.
