| Recognize a child or teen in your life who is kind to cats or other animals. |
With Be Kind to Animals Week approaching May 4-10, the American Humane Association invites the public to nominate children aged 6 to 17 who have demonstrated their kindness to animals through volunteering or working in their communities. This is the first year AHA will recognize teenagers, extending the age of potential winners to 17.
Potential winners should exemplify the qualities of kindness and compassion for animals. The child may volunteer at a local animal shelter or may organize food drives to feed homeless animals.
Nominations can be made by filling out a form at the AHA website or by mailing it to the American Humane Association. Nomination forms will be accepted until April 15, 2008. One grand prize winner and two runners-up will be selected from each of two groups: children ages 6 to 12, and children ages 13 to 17. Grand prize winners will each receive $2,000. The winners will be announced during Be Kind to Animals Week.
“Be Kind to Animals Week provides an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments society has made with regard to the compassionate treatment of animals and to recognize the bond between people and animals,” said Marie Belew Wheatley, AHA president and CEO. “This is our annual celebration of special young people who put their kindness and compassion into action.”
