Thanks to a donation by Nestle Purina Pet Care, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine can make some of its online videos, including those designed to educate cat owners on home care for cats with diabetes and renal failure, available on DVD. “Caring for Your Diabetic Cat” and “Home Care for Cats” will now be available to cat owners who do not have high-speed Internet access.
“Caring for Your Diabetic Cat” explains how veterinarians diagnose and manage diabetes in their cat clients. The video also includes interviews with owners of diabetic cats.
“For a cat owner struggling to come to terms with the disease, it is so much more compelling to hear a fellow pet owner telling you how easy it was to learn to give an insulin injection,” said Jodi Korich, DVM, director of the Cornell Partners in Animal Health Program.
More cat care videos are planned, including one that will focus on caring for cats with chronic renal failure. That video will be released in late summer of 2007, according to Korich.
“We are grateful to Nestle Purina for recognizing the potential of the project from the very beginning,” she said. “To have these resources readily available to the public, free of charge, is such an incredible service to pet owners and veterinarians.”
