| A Florida woman was attacked by two cheetahs on Saturday. |
During an exhibition last Saturday at the Panther Ridge Conservation Center near West Palm Beach, Fla., two male cheetahs attacked the sanctuary owner, Judy Berens.
Berens was airlifted to the Delray Medical Center, suffering from approximately 40 wounds on her arms, legs and torso, The Associated Press and CBS News report.
Berens was attacked while conducting an exhibition alone in an enclosure with the two male cheetahs. People at the scene said one of the animals seemed to become distracted by a ball bouncing nearby, and knocked down Berens when moving toward the ball. The cheetah then began biting the woman, and the other cheetah attacked, too. Several people came into the enclosure to rescue Berens from the animals.
Berens, who is expected to be released from the hospital soon, said the attack was “not a big deal.” She said she received some antibiotics, a few stitches and a couple of staples as a result of the attack.
Wildlife officers are investigating the circumstances of the attack, but said no laws appear to have been broken. The cheetahs are still in their cages at the sanctuary.
