Humane Society Silicon Valley and veterinarians in the Santa Clara, Calif., area will offer discounted prices on spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs during the entire month of February 2008. The discounts are offered to encourage pet owners to sterilize their pets, thereby helping to reduce unwanted litters of kittens and puppies.
“Our message to pet owners is: Don’t delay, spay/neuter today,” said Christine Benninger, HSSV president. “We’re hoping the discounted prices will encourage people to take action.”
The reduced cost to have a female cat spayed is $62.50, and the cost to have a male cat neutered is $37.50. Prices for dogs vary based on the dog’s weight and gender, starting at $57.50 for a male dog under 30 pounds and going up to $92.50 for a female dog weighing between 76 and 99 pounds. Discounted surgery prices include a pre-op examination, pre-anesthetic, anesthetic, spay/neuter surgery and hospitalization on the day of the surgery.
