CAT FANCY magazine received 23 awards, including five Muse Medallions, at the 13th Annual Cat Writers’ Association (CWA) Conference in Foster City, Calif., Nov. 17. The Muse Medallions, the CWA’s highest honor, were awarded to CAT FANCY in the National Magazine category; Susan Logan, CAT FANCY editor, in the Magazine Column category; Laura Lee Bloor, CAT FANCY associate web editor, in the Health and Care Magazine Article category; and Kari Winters, freelance writer, in the Other Magazine Topics category. Stuart Hample, freelence artist, also received a Muse Medallion in the Cartoon category.
“It’s an honor to receive so many awards among peers from the Cat Writers’ Association,” Logan said. “These are people who share our passion for and knowledge of cats, so it’s meaningful to us that they recognized us.”
In addition, CAT FANCY won 14 Certificates of Excellence in the same categories, as well as a Certificate of Excellence in the Color Photography category.
Several CAT FANCY contributors received special awards at the conference. Arnold Plotnick, DVM, received the Cornell Feline Health Center Veterinary Issues award for his article, “Mapping the Feline Genome.” Dusty Rainbolt won the Hartz Milk Replacement for Kittens award and the Purina Kitten Chow Kitten award for her article, “Gigi’s New Life.” Weems Hutto won the Kuykendall Image award for his “Katrina Kitten” photo.
