The Animal Humane Society of Minnesota welcomes Linda and Allen Anderson to Golden Valley facility, Dec. 16 as the next featured speakers in the ongoing Authors on Animals series. The Andersons will sign copies of their book, Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster, with all proceeds from the book sale going to the Animal Humane Society.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, attention focused on the plight of animals affected by natural disasters. In their book, the Andersons detailed how volunteers and animal shelters have rescued companion animals in disasters. The book shows how animal rescue has become a vital part of disaster plans. While writing the book, the Andersons interviewed hundreds of volunteers, Gulf Coast residents, animal organization leaders and animal-advocate celebrities.

“Animal rescuers don’t get keys to the city for their tireless work,” Allen Anderson says. “They get licks, kisses, grateful eyes and wagging tails. The animals keep volunteers going through conditions that you couldn’t pay people to endure.”
