Best Friends Animal Society Helps Animal Control Care for 400 Distressed Cats

The animal welfare group answers a call for help from animal control officials in Nye County, Nevada.

FLOCK was facing an increasing amount of cats and kittens, resulting in a reaching out to Best Friends Animal Society for help
Four hundred cats will be up for adoption once they receive medical care and are stabilized.
On July 14 Nye County Animal Control took control of FLOCK (For the Love of Cats and Kittens), a nonprofit organization near Pahrump, Nev. Faced with the care of nearly 400 cats and kittens, animal control officials asked Best Friends Animal Society for assistance.

Best Friends sent a team of animal care specialists to the 2-acre facility to clean existing shelters, provide food and water and administer veterinary care. “The cats are all receiving emergency medical care,” said Michael Mountain, Best Friends president. “And the costs of treatment will be considerable.”

Despite soaring temperatures that often reach 120 degrees, volunteers and staff have scrubbed and disinfected existing shed-like buildings on the property and ensured all the cats have clean litterboxes as well as fresh food and water. All the cats now receive plenty of loving human attention.

“Once the cats are stabilized, we’ll be starting to place them in good new homes,” Mountain said. “We’re already alerting our adoption partners around the country.”

Why did they take FLOCK over? Financial reasons. Neglect. Are the cats being transported to other cities to help with adoption efforts?
