The National Geographic Channel will premier the latest episode of the long-running Explorer series, featuring Leslie Lyons, Ph.D., as the genetic history of worldwide domestication of cats is uncovered. The episode airs today, June 10.
Explorer: Science of Cats presents the domestication of cat research conducted by Lyons and her team of scientists at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
“This will be the largest study conducted to date investigating genetic variation in cats and the origin of the domesticated cat breeds worldwide,” said Lyons, associate professor at UC Davis. “Information abstracted from this study will help the research community better understand the development of complex diseases in cats, which are a great model organism for humans.”
Explorer: Science of Cats premiers at 7 p.m. Pacific time Tuesday, June 10 in the United States only. For local channel information, additional air dates and to preview the documentary, click here. Explorer’s “Science of Dogs” is set for Tuesday, June 24.
