Almost 60 Lebanese cats and dogs find homes at special adoption events held in Phoenix, Ariz.

Nearly 60 cats and dogs rescued from war-torn Beirut, Lebanon, found new homes in the United States at a special adoption event held Jan. 26-28 at two PetSmart locations in Phoenix, Ariz. The animals were shipped from Beirut to Kanab, Utah, last year through the joint efforts of Best Friends Animal Society and Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The adoption event attracted potential pet owners from all over the Phoenix and Tempe areas, with some people driving more than 60 miles to meet the Lebanese animals. With adoption fees waived for the second adopted animal in an “adopt one, get one free” campaign, many pet lovers arrived ready to add two animals to their home.

Many touching stories added to the enthusiasm and heart of the event. Tia and Pepper, two longhaired calico cats, were adopted by a grandfather of an autistic boy. The man explained that his grandson responds well to animals and that the cats would make him
very happy.

In all, 26 cats found new homes over the weekend, with 33 dogs joining new families. Still, more Lebanese cats and dogs need new homes. For more information about these animals, visit the Best Friends Animal Society website.

I really Love cats and all animals. i WISH i could take a couple cats and/or dogs off your hands, but to tell you the truth one cat(I already own a Persian/Himalayan cat named Baby) is still a lot of work like baths, brushing it, feeding it, and a lot more. Thanks for listening.
