The Humane Society of Missouri presents its gala event, Art for Animals, Saturday, Feb. 10, at Old Warson Country Club. The stars of the show are 16 fiberglass animal-shaped sculptures. Some of the featured animals include cats, dogs, horses, ducks and chickens that were created by local artists. The artwork will be auctioned off at the event and the proceeds will benefit the shelter’s Dr. Doolittle Fund, which provides veterinary care for homeless pets.
Artwork ranges from “Buster” by Jeanne Spezia, a 28-inch-high cat covered in more than 2,000 mosaic tiles to create an orange tabby-and-white coat pattern, to “Bright Guy!” by Marlene DiFiori Locke, a beautiful cat covered with impressionist brush strokes in bright orange and red colors. The Humane Society of Missouri is accepting sealed bids on these pieces and 14 others until Feb. 8. Other items up for bid include an Indianapolis 500 Getaway package, an Oprah Winfrey Show package and a NASCAR Allstate 500 at the Brickyard package.
St. Louis area residents can see the artwork in person in the display windows and throughout the Neiman Marcus department store at Plaza Frontenac. The artwork will be on display until Feb. 8.
