On Feb. 5, a Colorado House of Representatives committee gave its approval to a bill that would allow licensed physical therapists who are not veterinarians to perform physical therapy on cats and
other pets.
The legislation, which is sponsored by Rep. Anne McGihon, is House Bill 1126. Members of the state’s House Health and Human Services Committee gave its approval of HB 1126 this week after hearing testimony from pet owners, some of whom brought along their pets.
Under the bill, a therapist would not be able to practice veterinary medicine, just physical therapy.
The measure now moves to the full State House for debate. If it passes, the bill would become law effective July 1, 2007.
