A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information regarding the person or people involved in the shooting of a radio-collared Canada lynx that was found shot to death in Montana in early February.
The cat, which was found north of the Seeley Lake area, was an adult male that was collared last summer, according to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent Rick Branzell. It was removed Feb. 3.
Lynx have been on Montana’s endangered species list since 2000. Because the animals are endangered, many of the lynxes have been captured, had radio collars put on them for monitoring purposes, then set free, such as the case with the one found shot the first week
of February.
Trapping or shooting a lynx is a federal offense that carries a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a year in jail.
Anyone with information about the lynx shooter can call Branzell at (406) 329-3000. Callers can remain anonymous.
